Upcoming highlights for 2019

Hi Everyone.  Here we are almost halfway through 2019.  Hard to believe!  Next Memphis Jazz Salon will be on Sunday, June 9 and will feature the incredible vocalist Joyce Cobb!!!!  This will be our 16th season of house concerts in Memphis.  The duo concert I performed at MTSU last year with saxophonist Don Aliquo will be released in the next month or two.  I am really excited about this recording.  Don is an amazing saxophonist and also a great composer.  The concert features both of our compositions as well as a Songs from Ellington and Monk.  I am hoping to finally release the Mountain Chamber Jazz Ensemble recording in the next few months.  Just finished my first full year teaching at ETSU in Johnson City, TN.  I love it and look forward to returning in the Fall.  Thanks for your continued support.  Feel free to write me at mjsjazz@mac.com!!!

Original Music for Big Band

Welcome

I have a repertoire approximately 15 original compositions for Big Band. The selections vary in difficulty from moderate to advanced. I have performed this music with the BMI Jazz Composer's Orchestra, the Brooklyn Jazz Composer's Orchestra (which I co-founded with Jeff Raheb), students from the Arhus Conservatory of Music and students from the Lichtenstein Big Band. I am available to bring these original big band compositions to your high school or university and rehearse/perform them with your student musicians.
